Discover One Blood: The Heartfelt Roots Reggae Sound from Seychelles
One Blood
Michel Antonio Camille, professionally known as One Blood, was born into a family steeped in traditional music on the scenic island of Seychelles. Influenced by his father, David, a renowned Moutia musician and vocalist, Michel—seventh of nine siblings—naturally followed this path, engaging deeply with the cultural music scene from an early age at the village level. He actively participated in national events and cultivated a diverse musical palette, embracing Moutia, Contre danse, Zouk, Afro music, Calypso, pop, and soulful Reggae, all of which profoundly resonated with him growing up in the post-colonial context of Seychelles.
One Blood draws artistic inspiration from iconic figures such as Bob Marley, Toots and The Maytals, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Culture, Wailing Souls, Jimmy Cliff, and U Roy, among others, which have significantly shaped his unique musical style.
Musical Journey
In 1994, at the age of 26, Michel relocated to London, where he taught himself guitar and refined his vocal abilities. By 1997, he was performing as a busker in the West End, forging connections with fellow musicians and immersing himself in the dynamic music scene. He also expanded his experience by busking in Glasgow, particularly on Buchanan Street and in local pubs.
Career Highlights
In 2006, he returned to Seychelles, and in 2013, he recorded and released his debut single, "Get To Carry On." The following year, in 2014, he collaborated with French Slam poet Thomas Barois to form the band One Blood. Although the group was short-lived, they participated in numerous district and national events. In 2017, he partnered with his cousin George Camille, who had emigrated to Canada, and subsequently released his first solo album, Reach Out, in 2019 under his own label, BloodRoots Music Productions. This was followed by his second album, Jah Warriors, in 2022. After visiting mainland Africa for the first time in 2022, he released the single "I Found Myself In Africa" in 2023. His third album, Changes, is slated for release in the summer of 2025.
